Citizens Advisory Group Sign-Up

Join us in our cozy Honeycomb Classroom for Sourdough Bread Baking 101, a special workshop offered for our Citizens Advisory Group. This demonstration-style class walks through each step of the sourdough process—from mixing and folding to proofing and baking—giving you a clear understanding of how to successfully bake sourdough at home.

As part of our America 250 series, this workshop highlights the traditional skills that sustained early American and Ohio farm families. Before commercial yeast, sourdough starters were essential in everyday baking. These living cultures connected generations and turned simple ingredients into nourishing bread that supported communities across the frontier.

During this class, you will:
• Observe the full sourdough bread-making process
• Learn key techniques including mixing, folding, shaping, proofing, and baking
• Sample freshly baked sourdough
• Gain practical tips for baking at home

Please note: Because sourdough is a multi-day process, participants will not take home a loaf of bread (you’d need to stay with us for about three days for that!). However, all class materials will be emailed following the workshop, and participants will be invited to join our private Facebook group for continued learning, questions, and sharing.

This workshop is a meaningful way to explore a historic skill while connecting with others interested in preserving and celebrating traditional foodways as we approach America’s 250th anniversary.
