Sourdough Bread Baking 101 – Heritage Baking Workshop (America 250 Series)
If you loved our Intro to Sourdough class and want to dive deeper, don’t miss our next workshop: Sourdough Bread Baking 101!
Held in our cozy Honeycomb Classroom, this demonstration-style class walks you through every stage of the sourdough process—from mixing and folding to proofing and baking. You’ll watch each technique step-by-step, taste the finished bread, and gain the knowledge and confidence to bake your own sourdough at home.
As part of our America 250 workshop series, this class celebrates the traditional skills that sustained early American and Ohio farm families. Long before commercial yeast, sourdough starters were a staple in pioneer kitchens. These living cultures connected generations, turning simple ingredients into nourishing bread that fed communities across the frontier. Learning sourdough today helps us reconnect with those timeless traditions that helped build Ohio.
During this class you will:
• Watch the full sourdough bread process demonstrated
• Learn mixing, folding, shaping, proofing, and baking techniques
• Taste freshly baked sourdough
• Discover tips for maintaining a healthy starter and baking successfully at home
While there are no take-home items, all class materials will be emailed to participants, and you’ll also be invited to join our private Facebook support group where you can ask questions, share your bakes, and continue learning with others from the class.
Whether you’re continuing your sourdough journey or just fascinated by traditional baking, this workshop is a wonderful way to experience a heritage skill that has nourished families for centuries.
